On a Wednesday night
in the middle of december
my friend went to an event
held under a big white tent outside
for a guy who couldnt pay his rent;
a fundraiser. He brought a hot date,
thought itd be a rager. As they
laughed in the snow bout where the
money'd really go, some businessmen
scolded them for making their jokes.
"oh please," he asked the various types
of salesmen, "could you tell us, then,
what we need to know?" One said,
"son, there's a shovel, a token, and
a shotgun on the other side of the bar.
Put them in your car and go home."
Then he drove to an open field
enclosed by seats, windows, hallways,
walls, and doors. Used that shovel to
dig into the middle of the endzone,
and left his treasures in the bottom
of a hole for the one who found them
in the cold. You know he left his car,
but he kept the shovel and walked
away down the road with his girl singin'
Electric fences
dont stop your dog from leaving,
it's the feeling of family alone.
And every apple
would cling for dear life to its tree
if it knew that its being free
would only lead to its being eaten.
Even eclectic pretenses
are a self-inflicted beating,
but you know i cant deny a faster way home
And that goddamn apple...
If it could, it would have fought with Eve,
called her a misguided monkey,
for wanting anything more than life in Eden...
